whoever typed marzocchi in the user info of this commmunity,, well, YOU MISS SPELLED IT!
speaking of marzocchi, since the bike's i want come with dual crown drop off's, i wanted too see a good replacement fork. My friend doesnt like the black stanchion tubes marzocchi uses, the fox 40 is nice but pretty fuckign expensive, and i dont know what else there is. the boxxer's i thought were good until i read reviews of how bad the internals and spiking and other problems those forks have. Especially the boxxer team fork. But this is all later in the future seeing as how ill afford one. But ill just be happy with the bike to start with. So if anyone minds giving their suggestions i'd appreciate that.
*inverted forks aren't really my cup of tea, though they do look really cool* *marzocchi shiver*

hey people, haven't heard squat from this community for a while, so i decided to do a bit of an update. couple weeks ago i moved away to college, now i'm living on the far north coast of california in the redwoods. there's some nice biking trails and i'm on the college downhill racing team, FUCK YEA! i haven't done much riding, being sick your 2nd week and with all the meeting new people and making friends and what not. so far we've got plans to go to reno for a race, and some others around northern california, probably even the Sea Otter Classic, if not the Sea Otter yet, i shall make it happen. i wanna have one race with a close team nearby.

peace out felow riders, and keep rippin it up

MAGGIES [28 Jun 2005|08:47pm]

I know that U-brakes are mounted on the chainstays instead of the seatstays, but are they the same width? Basically, I may be getting a 24" BMX cruiser that I want to use for some heavy duty riding, and just to be a dick, I wanted to mount a rear Magura HS33 on there, if clearance between the mounts and the seatpost and other factors allow.

...Will they?

Medium Schwinn Straight 8 [27 Jun 2005|04:54pm]

I wont be a dork, but the rules didn't say I couldnt post items for sale. But if anyone is interested in a Straight 8 (The Yeti Design, push shock NOT the pull shock) just leave me a message, if this is out of line, then please delete. It is listed on MTBR as well. $1500 takes it, you pay shipping and boxing

Fully active rear suspension. Apart, those four words make complete sense to me. As a phrase, I become completely bewildered. Seeing as there's no electricity or computers on these bikes, I'm at a loss as to where the 'active' comes in. Can anyone explain it?

[16 Jun 2005|02:13am]

Hi there, I live in the so-cal area, and am really wanting to get into free ride/dirt jumping/ street mtb. I've been riding bmx for most my life, I own a parts and clothing co. related to the sport. I'm pondering a few things.
1. Should I be on a 26" or 24"?
2. do I want a hard tail, or fully suspended frame?
3. what can I get that is descent for around $600.00, I don't want to go all out on all the high end stuff if I end up not riding it alot. Mid level is fine with me for now, I can upgrade later..

Originally, I had this idea that I would be able to accomplish all the mtb stuff on a 20" bike.
So I hunted down this 1999 high end race bike that mongoose produced for a few years. I bought an old 24" answer proforx suspension fork and modified it with answer aftermarket parts for way more travel. I put an aftermarket air shock on the back. I had a profile cassette 3-spd hub on the way with a profile derailure that adapts to the dropouts(I never put it on because I never built the wheel).I still have the carbon fiber wheels on it. In the end I just got made fun of, and very odd looks out at the trails. On a side note, I did win a local event on it.

Any suggestions and help would be great!

Hey i found something great mongoose in sponcering people to test there gear they give you there gear and you go out and try and break it. I am being paid and given a new bike and all new gear. yes i know they dont have the best stuff but this is great cause you are getting paid to use it. they are trying to improve there stuff so if you send them a video of you tearing it up you could get accepted. i dont have the site to give you my buddy found it. 9 of us got accepted. look in to it if you want to try. i will try to get the site from my freind.

how trails compare [01 Jun 2005|08:40pm]
[ mood | good ]

I have taken a lot of trails around my area downhill, cross country, free run, and a few climbing trails. I have been traveling around and trying all differant areas but i was wondering if the trails style ans difficulty vary that much from area to area. Here in the Carolinas its pretty much the same from area to area the design is differant but the idea is about the same. There are some really fast and tough courses, I was also wondering if you could tell me a good brand of bike to try i started out with a crapy huffy hit a big jump and snapped the frame in two. Then i bought a trek and cant keep it out of the shop its always the gears or shocks. i also go through rims like nothing i get a discount at the bike shop i dont just warp them i screw them up i have some that bend to the left some to the right. hey a good note they are recyclable get about 2 dollars a rim. post comments and help me if you can

Has anyone registered for the Single Speed World Championships in State College, PA? I just want to see if anyone here is going.

By the way, registration for it opened up about 40 minutes ago, and it's just about full - 296/400. If you want to register for it, head on over here, but hurry up!

Totally crossposted.

oh and the riding [18 Mar 2005|03:55am]

[ mood | contemplative ]

guys i thought id try and keep this place running. i just thought id say, whoever wants to join, join, but.... try to get away from the "x bike with x forks debate" it aint cool, and it aint what riding is about. ive made more friends from riding dh than going out in glasgow and thats a big task. put simply, lets keep this community to a dirt related downhillers idea. no bullshit, no products, no one year wonders.

let the riding speak for itself, ive seen kids on shady bikes pi$$ on guys with full dh rigs. so hows everyone doing? who races?, who rides and who sees the the sport progressing. personally i see it heading towards a bit of a downwards spiral after the whole north shore stuff pulls out. i think its going to be a little more like bmx, we are going to see the true hangers on over the next few years and it should hopefully pic up afterwards. at the moment it seems that a lot of guys with style are doing it for the money, not the fun, and soon after we should see the true riders progress truely.
